The Anglo-Japanese Tanka Society has been established to celebrate the art of tanka poetry writing. Whether you are new to tanka, or have expert knowledge of the form and its history; whether you write poetry or read it, we invite you to join the Society. We seek  always to further cultural understanding between the English-speaking world and Japan through the appreciation of tanka, to introduce tanka to those who are new to the genre, as well as to promote its scholarship. We also greatly encourage the composition of tanka, both in English and Japanese. Members' work will be collated under the section 'Tanka Online'. More broadly we aim to promote collaborative studies of tanka and its related arts and to unearth the richness of the tanka world in the contexts of a wide range of  humanities and social sciences.
