Sending my soul away
To where the moon has sunk
Behind the mountain,
What shall I do with my body
Left in the darkness?

- Monk Saigyo (1118-1190)

Broken by the sound of the wind
That plays on the bamboo leaves
Near the window,
A dream even shorter
Than my fleeting sleep.

- Princess Shikiski (1149-1201)

The dry sand falls through
My mutely listless fingers,
Gone without a trace.
My shadow escapes from me,
Lost under the scorching sun.

- Hisashi Nakamura (1950 - )

  Across worldly maps
oceans are inscribed as words
and yet as we write
such boundaries will wash through,
how strange we think only in words

- Sunil Manghani (1973- )
